Hunger deprives us of self-control

According to scientists, in the human brain exactly the same processes occur when we begin to develop hungry ghrelin. As a result, we become impulsive - first, we act without thinking, and secondly, it is more difficult for us to resist the temptation to enjoy here and now, even if we understand that we should not do this (the simplest example of such pleasure is sweet before dinner) .

Scientists also found that by blocking the action of ghrelin in the brain of rats, they can make their behavior less impulsive. Many mental disorders are associated with excessive impulsiveness and lack of self-control - in particular, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), obsessive-compulsive syndrome (OCD), autism, drug and alcohol dependence. Perhaps in the future, researchers will be able to develop new drugs that block the effect of ghrelin, which can help in the treatment of these disorders. But healthy people should remember that it is better to make any decisions, having had a snack or dinner.
